About Us

Colin Luther Rare Maps grew out of a missionary adventure in early 1990, with a visit to the West African country of Niger. This trip was the beginning of a love affair, not just with the continent of Africa, but with a very special people; the "Tuareg".

It was during my second trip to the bush of Niger, about a day's drive north of Tahoua, that I came across my first "antique" map of Africa. This map was a hand drawn map of the Sahara detailing the caravan routes of the Tuareg and various missionary outposts. Upon my return home and subsequent investigation into maps of Africa, I was drawn into the exciting world of map collecting.
